Hi All

Had a great weekend away and 3 days were all about Birds / Beer / Wine / Food.

I Guess i apoligise for the lack of Photo's however it is impossible to get any reasonable photo's in a group of people on an Aviary Tour or at a Packed Sale.

STGF Open Day.

What a day if you ever get the oppotunity definately go, Mikes place is definately world class.

The way the facility runs appears effortless and is very clean. We gained an amazing amount of information on diet as well as whats happening with the Gouldians in the wild and where the fund is heading and obviously what has already been achieved.

Something of interest was how Mike challenges himself by keeping Crimsons Finches in with Painteds/Crimson Chats/Peters Twinspots. I would of imagined that would be carnage however it displays if Aviary Layout and Introduction of birds is considered it is achievable.

A Great Day.

Singleton Sale

What can i say it was packed.

Large Numbers of Cutthroats $40 / Ruddies $40 / Tricoloured Parrot Finchs $150 / Pied Ruddies $125 / Sea Green and Pied Parrot Finches around $75pr / Numerous Mutation Gouldians / Jacarinis $45

Pretty Reasonable Day and worth the effort although a little frustration with the crowds.

Aviary Tour

Great Day, this was my first Aviary Tour and all i can say was that it was well run and the Hospitality of the Hosts was 2nd to none.

Thanks Hunter Finch Branch.

Over the last 6 months i have read alot about how minimising the numbers of pairs in Aviaries is important etc but the one common theme was that the Aviaries we saw were packed with breeding pairs. I couldnt get over the numbers of birds in some Aviaries, and they were all breeding.

I couldnt get over the numbers of Cubans we saw that were in with other yellow birds and Multiples of Cubans in the same Aviaries.

I recomend these tours as we saw alot of finches that arent commonly seen, i wont list or comment on these though all i can say is if you get a chance to do a tour get on it.

Ill post some pics shortly just need resizing.

Cheers
Luke

Luke, it pleases me that you had a good weekend and enjoyed Mikes set up.
The day was a success with over $10,000 raised for the Save the Gouldian Fund.
We are lucky to have such a world class facility here in Australia.
Incidently, the man in the last two photos is the editor of the English club magazine the Waxbill from memory.
It is good when people open up there yards for aviary visits because you can learn so much from seeing how others do their thing.
