Sitting on the verander today.I noticed somthing strange in the grass in the backyard. On closer inspection found that it was a pr of ducks with approximately a dozen ducklings. These are wild ducks that must have decided to nest beside my wood shed.Unfortuantly the dogs had noticed them too. Some made it through the chicken wire while some had to be helped. The problem was they all ran of into the paddock in different directions.Mean while Mum and Dad had taken of.I made a split decision to keep the last three that had not made it through quick enough. As the Lake down the back will be dry in the next couple of days,And all the other duckings down the back are now flying. Also mum and dad will be lucky to locate all the ducklings.

Later this arvo i noticed the dog in the backyard chewing on a duckling.Hopfully most of the others have caught up with each other.I will go for a look later as Mum and dad have now shot through.

Fingers crossed the three i have will have a chance. They now located in my bird room. They have spark in the water, bird seed, meal worms, earth worms and magots available if they survive.

Perhaps i should have let nature take its course.

Try some milk soaked bread, it's not a sustainable diet, but it will help, and they should take it no problem.

Sorry to hear about your ducklings demise. I tried once as a kid too without success. I think they easily succumb to gastrointestinal infections and it's night on impossible to keep them and their food out of their water.

Sorry about the duckilings ...I use to take them home too but my Dad use to make me take them back to where I got them , he reckoned they had more chance hiding in the grass which is how they avoid being picked off by predators ....I say fair enough in a world without dogs and cats.
You did your best anyway so dont feel bad.
