Blue gouldians in out door aviaries, is anybody having any sucess in keeping them that way.i have never kept them but think they are one of the best coloured gouldians [black headed/whitebreast]. I no they are genetically weak and can fall off the perch if you look sideways at them, but just wondering if anybody is having any luck with them out doors.

As I have only had gouldians for a year I have concentrated on the normals. Im hoping to get some yellows in the new year, who knows with a bit of good luck and good karma I might get a split blue.
I also like that colouring (BH WC BB) it would be my favorite in the blue backed gouldian, although I have seen a grey headed bird with a blue back that was magnificent.

Ive heard the same stories about them being delicate. Thats one of the reasons I would rather breed a blue than buy one, at least I would know that parents were used to the conditions in my aviary, and that the baby was parent raised.
Re being delicate birds......Ive read any number theories about why they are this way, from greedy breeders making pairings too close, also breeding blue to blue etc etc. Even that due to the blue colour they are more susceptible to viruses. Who knows what the truth is.
Ive come to the conclusion that all you can do is build up a strain of healthy good coloured birds with proven breeding/raising ablilty. After that its in the hands of nature.

i cant keep the splits alive yet,Although i have only bought one pr of splits,and the hen died.
