Baby Canary (close to a finch :P)

Is your finch sick or not well? Find out why.

I know its not a finch but they are similar.. honest.

Anyway, my pair of canaries are on their 3rd clutch now with 2 in the nest. Neither has left the nest yet, but 1 is looking great totally covered in feathers whilst the other is tiny, only has some feathers and seems to be struggling. Mum and dad from what i can see are still feeding it but its always standing on the edge of the nest, not sitting in the nest with the other. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to maybe give it a hand or know if there is something wrong with it. Hatching times were probably a day apart, food has been egg and biscuit, bok choi, carrot, small amounts of spinach and some lettuce. It has been warm here this past week, but they are under my patio. The nest is a large wicker with it placed inside a large metal D cup seed holder which is mounted to the side of the cage.

Thanks

Craig

My Canaries have had a terrible year, on fourth nest and nothing survived past 2 weeks. :(
Sounds like you are doing the right things Craig.
Don't really know why but sometimes the babies grow disproportionately.
Maybe it's natures way of culling the weak. :o
Time will tell.

Hmmm mine too. I have only had the one clutch raised (4 babies) one is a really nice looking bird but the youngest looks like it still has the baby fluff.....got soft downy stuff sticking out all over, makes it look a bit scruffy!
