my longtails are nesting in a nest box place on the ground - no eggs, but are sitting in there a lot!!!

weird? anyone else had this? will they be successful???

will try and get pics, but is there a way to put up pics without using photo bucket?

I have experienced this and generally all will be OK however excessive moisture and Mice can create problems.

if you look at one or two of there closet relatives the masked and pictarellas, they nest pretty much nest close to the ground. i had a pair of zebbies do it along time a go, the male couldn't fly to well so i put a canary nest 15cm from the ground and they built from there and raised about 25 young over time before i thought thats enough ..pete

Yep my red emblemas starting to build a nest on the ground till they plucked up the courage to stand up to the double bars and claim a nest ( d/bars were squatting in 2 nests per pair )
My quarrions are laying eggs under the newspaper in their cage coz I wont give them a breeding box ( meanie ) .

It's been taken over by the quail who now have 5 eggs, and are starting incubation. (usually they lay about 13 but it's a bit cramped! )

Some years ago I had a pair of Orange breasteds weave a nest in the grass I had left in the corner for the quail and raise 5 young.
Finches do what finches do.
