Very interesting reading.
And it's true that lack of access to avian vets is a problem, and confusion of correct application of medications originally intended for poultry to avairy birds.
My mother and one of the three local vets are doing a great job of educating each other with the help of Dr. Marshall's books.
A healthy diet and regular cleaning and replacing of nests, perches etc. does more for the birds health I think.

i am lucky i have a good one just around the corner who specializes in birds. the thing that puts people of the most is the price. it often cost more to see the vet than the birds cost to buy, but when you have a problem in the flock it good to be able to see a vet...it has saved me money in the long run...pete

Its way to easy to self diagnose thanks to google . Ive lost a lot of sleep due to late night symptom searches however Ive also learnt a lot .
We have 1 vet here who dabbles in birds and has been good for me so far but as mentioned the cost of tests / treatment is way too much.
You just have to way up the pros / cons especially if dealing with something contagious which may eventually wipe out an entire flock.
