Orange Bird Sale

I have just received a reminder with details of the Orange Bird Sale on the 6th March.
It was not required as we have already booked our accom for the Friday night.
For those within a reasonable travelling distance it is a sale well worth going to.
Infact my own opinion is for the finch keeper it is better value than the Gunadah sale.

While it is still some time off, accom. is at times limited, also I am getting ready to go away and my time will be limited over the next month.
I will try and remember to put my E Orix near my sale prices, if members of this forum intro themselves it will be good to put a face to an ID.Also if they wish to buy I will a discount for members.
Sadly I will not have too many this year as my birds have bred very late (or not at all)and I will not sell uncoloured unsexable birds.
I hope to see you there.

Mickp in all honesty Ive enjoyed the smaller sales more than the big ones. Gunnedah was just too full on for me , by the time you browsed and made it back through the mob to buy birds they were sold .
The local Dubbo sale was a good chance to meet breeders and also buy some good local birds as well as make useful contacts ...more time to chat and browse.
Parkes/ Forbes was a good size also although the crowd was daunting too.
So unless you like being part of a avian mosh pit Mick your not missing anythin at all.
This will be my first Orange sale if other half can get the day off that is.

I'll have to travel a few hundred kms to one before much longer.
have decided I'm going to get either a pair of grenadiers or maybe superb or splendid wrens.
coin hasnt landed yet

and knowing me I'll try to find the money to get all of them

I would be very careful buying Grenadier Weavers from an unknown person.
The cockbirds take 18 to 24 months to colour up and many have been caught buying a young cockbird and an adult cockbird. When the problem has been discovered it's hard to get the correct sex after so long. A male on it's own would be only $50 to $100 top price yet good true pairs bring $350 to $400 more from retail outlets.
They are really worth the money though,if you have the correctly laid out aviary.

Hi Gouldian,
I hope you can make it the Orange Bird Sale, yes it does get pretty busy for the first hour - but after that it is much easier to get around. We (I'm a member of the Orange Bird Society) also have a much bigger area compared to the some of the other sales you mention - so you can get out of the bussle for awhile if you want.
Hope to see you there.
