I lost a nest of three OB to ants yesterday

The aviary had been sprayed with Coopex but I guess a small spot got missed, oh I am so mad........... :x :x :x :x
Those OB's have had two clutches and lost them due to the heat, this one I thought I might have a chance as the weather isnt as bad, and then the #$%^@* ants get them

So sorry to hear that. :(
It is incredibly frustrating when the little b****s get in and do this.

Don't get it in the Aviary but a monthly barrier spray of Fipronil around the base will keep them at bay (if that's where they are gettign in - beware if there are branches, plants or fences forming bridges that you can miss).

If you have ants near your avairys unfortunately you will probably have to Coopex round them from time to time.
Sometimes they can be there and just come in and drink from the water containers and leave other times they will kill young ones, usually when there is a broken egg or dead chick, but sometimes for no apparent reason they will attack the live chicks.
Probably depends on availability of food.

anyone know where you can get Boric Acid? Ive tried Bunnings and the guy there said I was the second person to ask him for it. They dont have it.

Last night one of the paths at the back of the garden (nowhere near the aviaries :D ) had LOADS of ants.......Ive seen lots of ants but this was something else :o and they were all fairly still, I went a step forward to start putting ant powder down, I didnt get any nearer.........you would think someone set off a starting gun, they were everywhere. Im sure they were having a rally to discuss the amount of ant killer Ive been putting down
Ive checked the path tonight and not an ant......plenty of ant dust left
