got these two from an old bloke getting out of birds,told me they come from normal looking yellow heads,

The inheritance of yellow headed morph is well documented. "The yellow head mutation inherits as an autosomal recessive trait requiring two genes for expression, but also requires the presence of at least one red head gene in order to be expressed. Offspring from yellow headed pairs may be black headed (with yellow beaks) hens only, (note this only occurs when the male is SF for red head) or yellow headed (cocks and hens) when the male is DF for red head. From the above description it becomes apparent that either sex may carry a single yellow head gene without its expression." from

i would say the parent birds are split for blue they look blue to me. unfortunatly goulds will be heading down the zebra finch track of lucky dip......pete

to me the cock looks like the very rare(well Australia blue) turquoise it is shown in the guide to gouldians revised edition on page 103 just a opinoin or its a strain of blue

What you have is a nice pair of....Purple chest Blue gouldians... but as for getting that pair out of normal yellow birds.(whether split for blue or not)
