Hi every one i want to build a moth trap or buy one, prefer to build one.
Any ideas?

Moth Trap
The successful ones have an exhaust fan fitted

A piece of heavy ply wood 600mm 450mm
get a kitchen exhaust fan
The exhaust fan will dictate the size of the hole to cut into the plywood
Buy a circular UV(Black Light) Fluo fitting and fix it in front of the fan
On the rear side of the plywood fit a flange so a fine meshed bag can be fitted and held on with an Occy strap

When the power is switched on the light attracts the moths and they are then sucked into the mesh bag ready
for you to harvest them next morning.
Just put them in a refrige or freezer for a few minutes and that will slow them down.

I bought a moth trap at the "$2 Dollar shop" in Sydney for $2, all it is just a Mosquito Head Net I attach over a light, the bugs and moths fall in during the night and in the morning I take it off and empty it in the Aviary. No wires, no batteries!

We might need a pic of that so we can all go and raid the local $2 shop!

For a very easy way of getting a few moths in the avairy with minimum effort , I have been told, just put a solar light in there.
Planning on trying this method myself, as I like low effort. But will do the harder ways when necessary.

Ive been toying with that idea too, but I wanted something a bit more substantial than the garden solar light. I was thinking along the lines of a solar panel that would sit on the roof and a light that would hang inside. However I dont want something that looks like it can light up the Taj Mahal, or that would cost the same, just a night light look. That way I could get a night light in the aviary and add live food.

At least this moth trap is cheap and zero working parts

Ill continue looking for a cheap solar night light solution.

I bought couple of solar light and a flood light, they all turn on automatically but they only last about 6 hours, you need something that lasts at least 10 hours, (from 8Pm to 6Am), I think the first link above is it.
