cock dies ? foster parents found

Found a yellow backed split/blue cock dead this morning,So checked about four day old chicks in the nest box, found them stone cold a thought they were dead.Put the three in my hand and blew warm breath on them. They all came around, But i did not want to put them back in the same nest even though I thought the dead cock wasn't the father, could be wrong.I decided to go through all my normals first to find a foster pair.As all my yellows i keep are white breast and all the blues are purple as far as i know.So it will be easy to tell the young apart if they live.In the off chance the split/blue i got are also split to w/b,but all young were to big.So i went through the yellow backs and found a pr with four chicks a couple of days younger.I put them in with them and checked them a hour later. They were all still alive and not tossed,I will check them another couple of times today and touch wood they will be OK.

So the hen can't look after them on her own?

In this case they were already as good as dead when found.I have had a single parent look after chicks before,But the younger the less chance of the parent looking after them I think.
Good news at 5:30 pm tonight all are fine with the foster parents. Not so good news is there is a extra chick than i first thought, being five origanals and now three more.Six would have been a good number not eight.

If they live one will be silver as one is lighter skinned,And i think the other two are yellow split to blue as they all have the white middle nodule but are a little darker skinned then the silver.

All the split blues have fledged.Lost three of the yellows though. They died early in the piece,The blues were a little bigger so did better. Was unfortunate as I did not want any to succumb,But i did not want to loose the split blues.

Have to see some pics of them gomer when you get a chance. Will you breed a split to a full blue bird?
