I was just listenting to the ABC News Radio and they had a story about a new RIRDC proposal to give more value to Austrlain wildlike by easing the restrictions on owning and maintainng native mammals http://www.rirdc.gov.au/programs/new-ru ... PRJ-004398. Maybe I can continue to keep sugargliders when we get back to Australia but given the cost of quarantine they won't be the ones I have now. I suppose it's pie in the sky but it's good that the government is looking. Even 5 years ago it was very difficult to legally keep frogs, lizards and snakes. Now it is similar to bird keeping, you need licences but as long as you go through due process you can. So give it another 5 years and the advantages of keeping native common species over introduced species could well see sugar gliders and other small marsupials as relatively common pets.

Given the advantages of having native animals as pets is it possible we get the continent free of cats by 2050? What a dream!!!
