Thanks for the info Mick. I took your lead and planted a Pandorea Alba (white form) on each side of the aviary yesterday. Lets's hope by this time next year there will be some nice cover.

I was considering planting Star Jasmine due to its nice fragrance but searching on the net uncovered that it may in fact be toxic to birds if chewed. Can anyone confirm this?

Mick your Bamboo is a Golden cane palm and you've got the Pandorea mixed up with the Hardenbergia below it.

Hey Mick when I was a kid I noticed that blackberries were a favourite nesting spot for Zebs, doublebars, red-brows and diamonds but I think they picked them because they had thorns!

this is one time when the birds get no say in the matter. its bad enough when I get the aphids from the other halfs rose bushes damned thorns on those things hurt. so when I seen there was a thornless blackberry I knew that was the one for me
my missus must have the only rose bushes for miles that are never sprayed for insects, should probably have a sign out welcoming the aphids

Finch people are strange that way. ;)
They like their gardens full of aphids, and grubs. Their houses and verandahs over run with daddy long leg spiders. :o
Their favourite garden plants are the weeds like thistle and wild seeding grasses that other people pull up.
