Just curious as to the "general" turn around time for gouldians to return to the nest to start laying again after their first clutch. My 2 pairs did superbly with their
first clutches but they seem over it already. The juveniles have now been weened and are in a different cage, but the parents still are not really that interested in nesting again. I have rebuilt their nests once the babies fledged, but other than that nothing has really changed.

One other thing though. I have recently just finished off giving some old breeding cabinets i picked up a birthday and are ready to go. Has anyone put gouldians in cabinets in between clutches before ? Well more to the point changed their environment during their breeding cycle without disrupting it. As at this stage it would be easier for me to get the breeding pairs in cabinets rather than the aviary they are in at the moment.

I have two pair of gouldians in cabinets at the moment.
One pair the cock bird seems keen, hen wants nothing to do with him, dont if its just him or the environment. Will be separating them for a week and see what happens when they get back together.
The second pair are first timers and have eggs, which look like they are fertile and they are sitting tight, so fingers crossed for them.

round one for me was great got 6 babies who are all healthy as we speak. Round two was a fizzer nothing happened realy at all only sat on two eggs and nothing hatched. So pulled all boxes left it for 2 weeks now put everything back in including tea tree and lotsa grass and lots of nest boxes of course for the goulds. Now everyone this morning is building like mad!!!! Cordons and redbrows are going mental. Including my goulds so im pretty happy rekon they will be sitting very soon.

Its a tough question and i hope more people shed more light on this. I believe they need a little break after there babies fledge. Also i was slack and let them nest again in there old box with out cleaning it. They seem fully into it now its all fresh and new again.

I rekon when there given a full clean start at it again they have bigger fuller clutches. Seen it even with zebbies. Usually if there aloud to go straight back into it the clutch size is half with out a break and a rebuild of the nest.

I rekon the birds rebuilding even mentally stimulates them much much better.

Oh and provide lotsa extra nesting material with out it might dont wanna do anything. I start the nest for my goulds as you do but mine always add extra to it and build more.

P.s gotta love watching them build its such a enjoying part i could sit there for hours watching them flying around with grass and feathers. Funnily enough my goulds also add ostritch feathers to there nest.
