Noticed that one of the emblema fledglings is so much paler than the others. Is this a possible male/female indicator?
The bird on the left is a paler colour especially on the belly.

I don't remember noticing any particular difference in my fledglings when I had them breeding, Well not till they coloured anyway. Never know you may have bred a dilute.

Let us know how it turns out.

I haven't had more than the one fledgling before so this will be interesting.
He/she has a leg ring so will be easy to identify.
I know the breeding behind the hen but not the cock bird. How does the yellow mutation work? If the cock is red is it possible he was from a mixed colour mating and passing it on?

Diane both parents have to be split yellow for it to be a yellow. But hey who says you cant produce a cinnamon, just cause i'VE NEVER Hear of them does not mean they are not going to turn up.

I know for definite the hen was from red parents, the cock bird I dont have any info on. Cant wait to see what happens here. Bet it turns out to be a hen and the others are cocks.

That was the grandparent of the above babies. It was as you said, once they take to the floor they dont seem to do well after that. He was inside for a couple of months and then he died. He never did get any better. He was my first emblema and bought from a bird place so no idea what age he was.

My painteds have always spent more than half their time on the avairy floor, both those I have had before and my current pair. Real little sun lovers.

Mine are the same, but Grandpa was a bit different.
He took to the floor and never flew anywhere and then his legs started to sort of splay out. Thats when I took him inside, he lived in a cage for the rest of his life, which was about two months, I did put very low branches in there but he never used them. I also had to put seed and water in jar lids because he couldnt get onto the sides of other containers.
I thought it might have been arthritis.
