Desert Birds I would of thought your Guinea was actually Palm grass.
Mine looks like this http://www.tropicalforages.info/key/For ... aximum.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also calls it green panic but I have that too (African Vedt) its only about 40cm high if you leave it to grow.
Mine is 1.8 M tall and spreads outwards, I get some wire and wrap it to let it grow upwards and stake it like a tomato bush.
Whatever it is (the broadleaf one) I want one too :)

Must be some Palm, Johnson owners in Perth??
:nosey:

Different states have different names , i was told not call it New Guinea Palm Grass but that was the name used in Adelaide 20 years ago.This plant has never produced a reasonable crop and most years i would be lucky to pick half dozen seed heads off of it.It has never produced seed at this time of year and generally seeds May/june.1200 mm of rain in 15 months changes things a bit. My dad gave my Grandma a pot and twenty years on this is a bit out of the same pot. A few words of warning - these plants are weeds and can spread quickly.MICE also love these plants.

Heritageseeds will be the same the grass they call guinie grass is(Hamil grass) not like the guinie grass that bird people talk about, There are heaps of grasses called guinie grass our native is small compared to Hamil grass the one Di's talking about is more of a ground hugging grass but still called guinie grass.
