Any thoughts on using a winnower? I am thinking of making one, some plans would make the job easier. Bob.

Some old timers use the wind as a winnower.Just drop seed from one bucket to another on a windy day and the husk blows away from the bucket or drum underneath.I myself use that theory but with a pupose made reverse winnower. One pass through winnows twice and also seives out most of the foreign objects in the seed.

Thanks for the site and advice, as a new member I did not look around the site. I have tried the bucket way, only got more husks in my eyes than seeds in the bucket. I must have been doing something wrong. Bob

Used to do that, but the Man of The House wasnt keen on the extra "weeds" that kept popping up in the veggie beds
Not my fault the wind blows that way

I am trying to grow seed but in pots so I can easily move it to where it grows better. The birds like to eat it when its a couple of inches high, but if I leave it to grow on it gets to about 6 inches tall and then dies off.
So far that theory hasnt worked very well.
Millet sprays are even worse, never saw one yet, the wild birds must be getting at it.
