Mondo Grass.

Howdy all, Is Mondo Grass safe in my finch aviary? It will be used for a border. Bob.

Should be fine, but if you can use a perennial native/seeding grass, even better.

One good thing about Mondo grass is that it tolerates pretty low light and can be good for those shadowy corners which are difficult to plant up otherwise. Most of the Australian grasses need high light levels.

Could also use Liriope sp., depending on how high you want the border

Hey Pete, pretty keen to pick your brains about native grasses...........can you recommend any good references, or better still, pics and descriptions?............I have a grasses book, but I'm a Forester, man I struggle with monocots.....

I think liriope sp. berries are slightly poisonous but I have never seen any animals eating them. If you google it a few things come up but I think they would be ok most animals know when something is poisonous. :?

Yeah mondo grass is ideal for an aviary ....if you have a big W nearby they sell trays of the stuff ( maybe 12 plants ) for a very reasonable price , it grows fairly quick .
