I have a scattered a few bits of wood around my property, in an attempt to lure termites.
This appears to have worked well.
How do the forum members seperate them from the wood.
I tapped the wood with a hammer, termites dropping into a tray.
I then put them in a saucer and into the aviaries.

Be carfull trying to atract termites to your propety. As they may end up in your house. As they can travel up to 50 metres underground,In their little tunnels. They wont travel above ground unprotected,As they dont like daylight, and they are targeted by black ants etc. They also need access to moisture,so damp wood not wet may help atract them.

The house is steel fame, but yes you are right always careful.
I have 2 1/2" acres, the wood in in the rain and well away from any building.
The wood will go into a 44 gallon drum when infested.
I was wondering whether to let the finches pick through the small crumbling wood or try to separate them (bit fiddley I think).

Anything I say. What a wonderful philosophy you have.

I am lucky enough to get termites not far from where I live.I fill an old esky with nest and keep covered with a damp rag.I tap with the back of a tomahawk into a old deep fryer basket sat in a cat litter tray and what falls through gets fed to the birds they scratch through it like chooks.PS I put Vaseline around outside rim of esky to stop black ants.

I would be able to harvest termites fairly easily, there are lots of mounds just outside of canberra along the roads.
I have also got plans to make a termite tumbler, similar to the one that Southy uses
