When you bring home your four new zebra finches you think it will be fine. All your finches are equal in gender(2 x boys, 2 x girls). AND WHAT HAPPENS>>???? welll let me think, the cat comes and gets one over night... So now i have three finches(2 x girls, 1 x boy). I will probably have to go buy a partner now. Will having birds be a continuous expense. It isn't the cats first time so what do i do?

buy a dog, a shotgun, or move your birds inside at night are all possibilities! ;) nah just jokin' second one.

Does your aviary have a inclosed shelter section? how is the cat getting them?

I wouldn't be. You'd be suprised how many cats have lead deficiencies, so I regularly help them out

moving them inside is a possibility. In fact it might be better for them. Im not definite if it was the cat, but there was feathers below the cage. PLUS i checked the whole cage and it was perfectly secure, except the push up doors, so i cable tied them just in case.

The cats presence alone will be enough to make the birds panic , it may have broken its neck in a panic or could have died from shock .
Honestly a cat is a cat it is their instinct to kill . As Ive said a hundred times Australia is no place for cats , they are doing irrepairable damage to our small native critters .
Is it your cat ? if it is why is allowed out at night ? If it isnt your cat catch it and dump it at the local animal shelter or kill the bastard thing .
RSPCA will lend traps for feral cats , but that doesnt mean you can relax if you get rid of it , where theres one theres many more.

We live in the country and the cats sleep outside and so do the dogs and the bird. i think it was where i had the birds, so its all good. the bird wasn't there that morning so yeah.

CATS SHOULDN'T BE LET OUTSIDE AND FREE AT NIGHT.
Secondly why should your birds suffer due to the cat,either no birds or dispose of the cat.
Sorry to be so definite but I am sick of people letting cats roam.
if you must have a cat and they do suit alot of people make sure it is controlled 100% of the time.
Dogs are generally why not cats.

honestly, i'm also sick of hearing how this or that's perfectly tame cat who 'wouldn't hurt a fly' is allowed to roam at night, killing native and captive animals, then they get SOOOOOOO upset when the damn thing is captured, shot, or otherwise detained.

It is actually the law to keep cats inside, or penned of a night, but there are few people know this fact. Any cat I find here these days is shoot first ask later.
