What are you all using to control tapeworm? And do you do feces egg counts under a microscope after to check how well it worked?I have been using 2 drops of Cydecton cattle drench(controls internal and external parasites) on my birds for a few years with out any losses(from worms)but I like to rotate drench to prevent build up of resistance.

Which cydectin are you using buzzard? As external (pour on cydectins) will not do tape worm. But will do other internal worms. And the cattle pour on one is double the strength of cydectin (moxidectin) needed at one drop externally.Although there is a large tollerance with birds, using this drug. The cattle one pour on should not be used orally. So i have been told by the distributers Virbac for Australia. And also by a repatable avian vet.
I have been using cydectin plus tape (moxidectin plus tape worm) And also use avitrol plus, moxidectin, panucure for sheep (I think its 50) and worm out.
Have used the cydectin plus, avitrol plus, panucure mainly by crop. But somtimes in the water.
And wormout in the water only.Which i will use whwt i have and that will be it.
And moxidectin in the water crop and externally.Which you can do with the cydectin plus but externally wont do tape worms.

Using Cydecton cattle poor on externally.Changed to 2 drops (trialed on Zebs first)after feces egg count disappointing when using 1 drop.Did not realize that it didn't control tapeworm thanks for that. Will moxidecton control tapeworm when used in water and does it separate or stay mixed for a decent amount of time.

I have been using Moxidectin in water since I first heard about on the forum. Im just about finished the small bottle I have now and will be changing to the Moxidectin plus.
I have been using a bird wormer too but after hearing about the moxi plus its probably the better way to go for me.
The moxi seems to mix in the water well enough. I have treated individual birds with drops at the back of the neck too.

Do it all the time with the parrots, little harder on a finch but. You've got to be careful not to go down the wrong hole or you fill the lungs with liquid. Did this in my younger days with a male King Parrot, costly mistake, was only about 14 or 15 at the time.

I also use moxidectin plus in the water, just make sure your 'waterer' feeds from the bottom because moxidectin sinks in water.
Keeping: fresh air 😅

Once you have done a few to build up your confidence,Its not hard at all.I think the needles you by from vetafarm have a diagram on the packet.Any how start with a few cheap birds for practice,Do a few and wait for a day if your worried,If you have done it wrong you will know within a hour or two,As they can suffocate having the worming mixture in their lungs,Although rare and not to easy to get wrong. If it does go in wrong it will only be in about half the disance that it goes into the crop,So take note how fare it goes in and if not sure pull it out and have another go.I personally come from the right hand side of the beak with the needle hozizontal to open the beak with the stem of the needle, then slide it down the left hand side.Others come straight in from the left hand side. Many years ago when i first did it on about 50 odd parrots,Never been told or shown how to do it.I killed about 5 scarlets by putting it down the wrong side.By the way they were the first to be wormed. So thats the cons the first time you do it there is a possibility of doing it wrong,Atleast after reading this you will have half an idea on how to do it.Also you have to catch up the birds to do it.Buzzard-1 wrote:Have never crop needled,(unless drenching sheep counts)have heard of it, don't know any one who does it.Pro's and Con's please. And how to do it.
The pros you know every bird has had the correct amout that has been done this way.And you get to do a physical on every bird you catch to determine in fact what condition they are in.
