Hi everyone, have just joined this forum and am a total bird novice. My other half tho has had birds when younger but budgies/weeiros.We are considering getting finches and have seen some great aviaries on farms, made to look like caves etc. We like the idea of something that looks different and natural and are looking for inspiration. Does anyone have website links or photos they could share? Thanks.

There are a whole lot of progressive avairy builds shown on this site. Just read and view the posts under avairys and cages for some great ideas.

Its all very exciting and the sky is the limit with avairy's. Just a few tips .....make the door big enough to get in and out without losing birds , make sheltered areas to eliminate rain and wind though they do like to sit in the rain , food areas to be sheltered plenty of flight room and hidy holes ....go as big or little as you can afford $$$ and space wise and most of all have fun with your hobby ... '
as I have said before I have seen aviary's built out of old TV sets ,wardrobes and telstra cable rolls and they all made awesome aviary's ...

Thanks jusdeb, it is exciting. I don't know what it is about finches, because other birds leave me cold. We have plans to put plants etc, though the reality might well be different. Looking forward to lots of advice from experienced people and to meeting other fellow West Australians as well as other members.

Here is something that may interest you:
http://www.discussion.1accesshost.com/index12.htm scroll down to the bottom of the page, all those brackets, screws, square tubing etc can be bought at Stratco, no welding needed, just use good size rivets. Anyone can assemble an Aviary in minutes. However if the Aviary is more than 3 m deep it is best to get the trusses welded then powder coated. Once assembled use plastic ties to hold the wire in place until you're ready to affix a strip or a round washer to hold the wire permanently.
