Hi everyone
we want to put some protection against wind on the front of the aviary. In summer we may look at canvas for shade, but for winter we like the idea of thick clear plastic like for c afeblinds. Bunnings don't sell plastic off the roll apparently, can anyone suggest where we could buy some? Thanks.

I bought green house plastic (Cheaper )from monbulk rural in Melbourne about $11 a meter 7.5 meters wide UV resistant and guaranteed freight to NSW wasn't bad.

what is the dimension of this aviary.. face it away from the weather or just buy bronze coloured polycarbonate. tec screw it on to one side , it lets light in and can be removed in summer if it gets to hot. don't use the clear polycarbonate as it will heat up your cage and cook your birds....pete

overall it is 2.85 x 1.5. It is behind the house so more sheltered but we do get some strong winds. will post pics when finished. Had hoped for plastic which could be rolled on or off as needed, just a matter of sourcing it. Looked into hothouse materials as suggested, I think there should be a place not to far from us.

is it only one side wire..because you could have the chance of blocking out fresh air even with plastic roll downs...

My aviary is a similar size to yours and is attached to the back of our shed which protects it from the SW winds. I have then bought 2 clear Bistro Blinds from Spotlight and attached them on one corner. They Zip together and at the moment are left down all the time, but come the Spring weather I'll roll them up in the daytime and drop them at night. Very easy to install and in summer will be rolled up permanently. They also had some at the bigger Bunnings, but these were too long for my aviary. They create a nice cosy corner at the moment as the sun hits there first thing but not enough is enclosed to cook anyone. It's also the area where they all sleep at night and seems to be working well in my situation. I did go to a salvage yard and found a set of sliding glass shower screens which would have been great but the family thought I was a nutter for even thinking about them so hence the Bistro Blinds.

ah ha! i can help you here.

i just went to bunnings a few weeks ago for exactly the same reason. its true they do not sell the plastic for "cafe curtains" by the roll (but they do sell fixed plastic curtains), however the do sell outdoor clear plastic "tablecloth" by the roll in a variety of thickness' that are more than adequate.

did the trick just fine on my aviary.

Hi, I bought cafe blinds from K-mart for my aviary keeps wind out and I can still sit and watch my birds as they are clear plastic. They had two sizes can't remember the sizes. Hope you find what you want.
