I have been there many times infact alot of years ago I was offered a position there but my wife wanted our children born in Australia plus wanting to be reasonably close to her mother.
The last time there was 2008
When you work out when you are going let me know and I will contact a very good friend of many years and he will assist you. Sadly he has a huge Parrot breeding facility and I could never convince him to keep Finches.Even today we have shots at each other about our preferences.
My best tip for a visiter to Jurong is get there prior to opening as soon as the gates are open head for the Softbill walk in. You will see far more before the tourists arrive and the majority of birds quietly go into hideing
One of my avian highlights was at Jurong, I had a King Bird of Paradise feed out of my hand.Oh what a feeling.

Hi David
That sounds Great, my dates are not confirmed but i will most liklely have only 1 day free which i am dedicating to Jurong which i think may take up the day,.... what do you think?..if i get more time i would be definately interested in seeing the Parrots also.
At this stage Sunday 26/9 or sat 1/10 will be my avail dates but i should be able to confirm next week.
Cheers
Luke

Get there very early and you should see it in a day. Also it is very very hot and humid there.
The major problem is you are going on a Sat or Sun which means there will be literally 100's of locals going.
It will be difficult to see alot in the big flight unless you find a quiet spot up high and sit quietly and watch and hope you do not get disturbed.
The two walk ins are your main targets as the smaller aviaries are designed to see the birds no matter how many thousands are watching.
Sadly my friend Daisey has been promoted and is no longer the Deputy Director stationed at the Park.
She would organise for me to go through the keepers gate at dawn and supply a container of Mealworms.
I took a friend one trip and I took his photo with an Imperial Pigeon on his head and Fairy Blue Birds, Shama and various other
Softbills sitting on his arms and hands feeding off the Mealworms offered.
It is still a great place to spend your free time. There are several good bird shops there as well
Sadly I suppose you will not have alot of spare time, generally overseas company trips are generally full on with little time to breath.

My mate doesn't get back to Singapore until mid Sept.
I will contact him and get some addresses.
I am not sure if he still has his grand kids after school or not but I will see if he would be your guide and drive you around.
His own collection is massive but all Parrots except for a few Toucans.
In 30 years I have never been able to convince him he should keep Finches

The year is 2014 and this year we are planning not only another 6 months in outback Australia starting in April but also a trip to Europe later in the year.
The Netherlands are hosting the World show with around 18000 exhibits as well as the National Bird show with a mere 15000 exhibits. Than there is Walsrode in Germany, Avifauna - the oldest bird park in the world - and a few other exciting bird visits planned.
My intention was to stop off in Singapore on the way back and visit the Jurong birdpark again.
When I brought the stopover up in conversation with another bird friend today he drew my attention to a recent article by Peter Odekerken titled: Disappointment at Jurong.
It gives a negative view of the bird park with many species lost or replaced with common species possibly due to a change in management. Also a lack of variety and numbers.
Peter cut his visit to the bird park short because of his disappointment.
Anybody been there recently as I have piggybacked onto an older topic?
I have been to Jurong several times in the past but not in recent years ( cannot beat the outback for birding)
cheers,
case
