Slight emergency today. Two gouldians fledged yesterday, one getting around with not too much problem the other having major difficulty due to being a fair bit younger than the other one.
Tried to park it back in the nest box several times yesterday, but no go, it kept coming out. This morning I found it on the floor very cold.
So I set myself up for some heartbreak and brought it in and put it in a tissue lined bowl with a heat mat underneath.

Crop was empty too so I made up some egg and biscuit food, ended up having to sieve all the bigger bits out to make it really runny. Baby took some of the food, I didnt poke in the mouth  :? too scared it might choke. I just let it drip and I could see that it was swallowing some. Within 45 mins it was flapping about in the bowl.
Then I had a real dilemma, put back in the aviary and risk it happening again, or keep inside and risk loosing it because I wasnt doing the right thing.
Anyway, with the help of E Orix I have modified my terracotta light and now have it hanging from the roof of the aviary over a paver.

Looks like it might be working too, the baby now has seed in the crop so the parents must be feeding it.

I would end up with crispy chicken

I have a barrel in the aviary thats turned on its side that is close to the light/heat, it looks like hes parked himself there for the night, saw the hen feeding him, so Im happy with the way things turned out. Ive done all I can for him now.

Is that the light in the barrel or the microwave?
