have a confession to make......
a female ruddy and a pied zebra have shacked up in my holding aviary......
they have just fledged two young, both look like small female zebs.one is a very soft grey and the other darker.
they are both very cute and appear healthy.
will they be infertile? (i hope so).
what should i do with them?
has this happened to anybody else?

i have since found him a mate so will seperate shortly when the young are independant.


note to self.....never trust zebra finches.


note to self......have two holding cages in future, one for hens and one for cocks.why didnt i think of this before???

They are an abomination unto the Law and whose wrath they will incurr. Such monstrosities must be smited from this Earth. Let them stand as an example to the wicked aviculturists of Tamworth - put them on display Endevour Park as freaks to be scorned by the righteous. The sins of their father must be known.

It happens to the best of us once. The seperate holding cages are the way to go. Re the little oops. Ring them with identical rings so there is no risk of mistaking them for anything but what they are and keep them as novelty pets. Preferably in holding cages where there are no nests. It's not their fault after all, they didn't have a say in getting hatched.

probably but still a bad thing to do, intentionally or not. I feel sorry for you, as it was clearly not by your planning that this happened, but I would suggest finding buyers would be hard. I wouldn't keep them alongside anything else, and be careful, if they are fertile this may get worse.

Unfortunately not a good thing to happen, best advice give them to your mother in law, show how much you love her.
