Our dog got two of our birds!

  Our dog just got to the birds we had in the small quarantine cage... We moved them on the weekend and didn't put them back where they would have been less exposed. And to make it worse, my 4 year old called out that the dog was eating the birds but I thought he was exaggerating (he is always dobbing on everyone) so didn't even go to check :( I feel so bad. and I could throttle the dog  So now we have two dead goulds, two traumatised ones and two in the hospital cage waiting treatment for airsac mites...

That's what my husband said, can't trust the animals, instinct to kill is stronger... Sorry about your emblema girl :(

my dog is well trained (despite being a beagle) only to chase currawongs and butcherbirds, leaves finches well alone. ATM she is guarding finch cage which is in the sun :)
Sorry to hear about your losses both of you. My O/B cock got out yesterday

Apart from the odd chook the 'pups' get, my 5 staffies don't touch birds. My origonal girl would lay in the sun & the chooks would walk over her, although I did have to stop her having a go at Charlie the Galah after he bite her on the knee cap. Should of let her go cause all he does now is attack anyone that goes near him.
