How many attempts at nesting?

OUr stars are currently in the final stages of their 3rd attempt at building a nest in the last few weeks. Started building in an empty hanging basket but didn't get far, then started building in some potted grasses, then when the nest was practically finished they started dismantling it and build another one right next two it (literally 15 or so cm away!). Is this normal? They are young and we assume this is their first season nesting. Do they often have practice runs?

yes they have practice runs, but if they keep producing chicks then I'd try and limit them to at most 3 nests a year. especially since they are young.

Flab that's what all of mine are doing as well except it's been going on for much longer and my Emblema are sitting again on a finished empty nest. That's why I was so excited when My Gouldian pair hatched out some young last week and so far everything looks to be going well.'

Same here, Stars, Blue Face Parroties, WE Masks and Parsons.........all building/built, all laying/laid eggs......there's some young somewhere, can hear them, dunno which nest :? .......all young birds and first-timers..........patience, keep out as much as possible, catch some rainwater and keep the greens, shot seed and live food up to them...........they'll get it eventually ;)

I think theres more chances of me having a baby than these bloody birds this year ( buckleys chance that is ) they are hopeless . The Quarrions are the only ones breeding however since this is the 3rd clutch this year it will have to be the last or else risk my girl getting crook.
Yes yesI know about 3 being too many but the first clutch was only 1 bird so Ive let them go for 3 this time.
The finches have awesome little straw hiltons happening but no eggs and the neophemas are just sitting in their nest boxes minus the eggs and those bloody Gouldians , funny little prima donnas I swear they are waiting for me to design and build for them.
Anyhoo its nice to see everyone else having good breeding seasons , spose it means plenty of littlies for sale next year.

Wonder what everyone else is doing that we're not?? Have you started on the soaked seed yet? It's the only thing I can think of, but just havn't had a chance to get out to buy the Virkon S.

We have started giving soaked seed, which they seem to like. Haven't yet tried sprouting seed (had one failed attempt a few weeks back but haven't had time to try again).Don't have Virkon but using ?Mediclens or something like that.
