The new avairy ( in the planning stage ) will be roughly 10 ft x 10 ft and will house 3 maybe 4 pairs of Quarrion . My dilemna is while these new Quarrion pairs are going into more spacious surroundings my original pair of hand reared are still in their smallish cage which they love and will always go back into when let out .
Part of me would love to see them spend the rest of their lives being able to fly and forage in the larger cage the other part of me doesnt know if they could handle the weather outside after being indoor birds for 6 years .
Also would they know how to act like birds and socialise after being around humans all their lives .?
I guess the question is would it be fair on them to put them outside ? Any opinions appreciated.

Dunno yet , its 10 ft wide is all we have worked out so far ..I imagine a 10 x 10 square with a safety door and enclosed breeding area .

I would sort of do the 'tentative introduction' method, introduce the new birds to the flock of outdoor ones and the outdoorsers should teach them

It might be worth a try putting them outside for a while to see if they like it. Im sure you will hear about it if Bob and Ollie want to be indoor birds

Hubby is going to build me a large suspended to go on the back verandah ,thats about as far as I can bear to let them go . Not quite the roominess of an aviary but Im sure they will like it as they are still around us most of the time and they are protected from the weather .
The others arent going in until they are bonded pairs so there shouldnt be too much drama there just going to take longer to get them all settled.

A wise compramise I think. And if it goes well, you still have the option of moving them further out later.

That was another thought F/breeder maybe during non breeding season and if warm enough they could play with the commoners in the big house
Just don't think Bob would play very nicely , he has abandonment issues he was my sons bird in those early teen years when they are still lovable then of course Bob wasnt cool anymore and son is rarely home.
