how baby quail know when its pouring down, and will continue to do so for a few days? Ive just had 8 quail hatch out in the main aviary and wouldnt you know it after several days of beautiful weather its going to rain for the next few days. Thats exactly what happened with the first clutch.
These babies arent like the other clutch I had. Ive got a yellow one

and one, possibly two that look like they have a just little bit of yellow under the chin.
So what colour will these be?

no idea on the yellow under the chin but a yellow is a silver baby.....but i think yellow with a pail brown /light tan stripe down its back could be a cinnamon.... what colour are the adults , its been a while since i had kings......pete

Cinnamons look just like silvers but yes, have a dark stripe or two stripes down their back, and are often a bit brownish.
We only have 3 of the 250+ mutations here, so it could be something new

Diane the pair of quail you have came from a normal cock and a silver hen, so you could get anything
If you want any more of the feathered rabbits ( related to zebras I reckon) just say so.
from now on with any pair of finches I sell I'll be throwing in a pair of quail for free.
finches do like hard boiled mashed up quail eggs though luckily

Certainly not expecting the yellow but very happy to get it. Maybe the ones with the yellow under the chin have the silver gene?

The yellow chick will definately be the one with the silver gene. I suppose in theory the ones with the light chins could be carriers, but I have never noticed this in mine. And I have had many carriers over the years. As Jay says, cross fingers for a new mutation.

Mine keep laying eggs, sitting for a bit then deserting. Don;t know what's up with them this season.
