I'm pretty sure they're on the official list of exotic birds in Australia

I don’t see it listed although I did find the ‘Black Francolin’ which I don’t even think is available in Australia?

You wouldn't know what the Game Bird people have.
They have some interesting species and many don't mix with aviculturalists because while still avian species
the management etc is so different. But I doubt that the Harlequin is still here.

i have a bit of an interest in ornamental "game" birds, but as yet have no idea who has/had the francolin.

sadly the himalayan monal has died out here, but the good news is that some dedicated breeders seem to be pulling back the siamese fireback from the brink. i have been told that there is a fellow with a number of pairs of roul roul (crested wood partridge) which is just spectacular. but i doubt that they are going to last.

i had never heard of harlequin quail until now.

I read your post on APF and the thread on gbwf. $40000- I hope that was for a pair :)
