Hi all

I tried to ask a question the other night but maybe i did not phrase the question correctly.

I purchased from a reputable breeder an Australian Yellow Cock with a Split Australian Yellow Hen

The Hen has BH-Purple Breast but also has shades of blue through it-GB

They have had 4 very healthy chicks, now 6 days old

The four chicks all have dark shades around their eyes and all have the blue-opalescent nodules which tells me none of them are Australian Yellow, just all splits. Or so im led to believe.

How could this be that four chicks are all just splits at best?

Would be interested to get your thoughts.

It's just the luck of the draw. Next clutch could give you 6 Australian yellows without any splits. Provided your hen is split it should average out that every second bird produced will be yellow. Most splits but not all will show a sign of being split. Does your hen have any yellow on the back of the head, small patch of white on the chin or somewhere on the face or a white flight feather?

Yer i figured it may be the luck of the draw.

No i agree with you on the Hen, she has no visual signs apart from the fact that her purple chest is not pure purple, its half blue. Which ive researched may mean she is split for White Chest. Nothing under the chin or on the neck, i have a cock bird with those split signs so i know what to look for also.

So if they are all splits is the ratio of Male/Female still 50/50
