Do you Guys use DNA Sexing
is is very popular in the UK & the price is getting cheaper
you can get 10 birds sexing kits for around AUS $15

saves alot of time

you can get the young birds sexed once they are independant

When you mean testing kits.
Are these the little container and needle used to take blood or for feather quills to be put in a sterile container, then send them away to be tested in a lab.
Here in Aust it costs around $15 per test.Up until recently the actual test was done in Sth Africa.

haven't ever used it, might be something wort thinking about when I have a collection.

I have not had it done yet myself (for my birds that is, I know what I am ) as I have not yet had the need to sex any birds. However I usually buy DNA sexed finches from a local breeder. Very accurate and I have had no misdiagnosed sexes, but have had through surgically sexed birds, surprisingly.
I prefer the DNA method as it is less stressful on the birds and it seems easy enough to get it done via a private lab. Cost seems minimal.

I had some quarrions done , couldnt come at stabbing them so just cut the longest toenail so as to make it bleed ...too easy and yes reasonably cheap although compared to the alternative here of surgical testing at $20 a pop its still rather dear taking into account the anaestetic and vets fee.

What can one expect to pay to have dna sexing done in australia? And do you need to pull a feather right out? How doe sit work exactly? I have had birds (conures) surgically sexed before but never dna.

Bloos drop on cardboard or 2 feathers plucked fresh from wing ...$16.50 for multiple birds $20.00 single bird ..email back within 3 days certificate in mail within a week. DNA solutions Melbourne do a great job.

not sure which type of test this is, but DNA here in Canberra is 16.70 or so, and I think you can get surgical sexing done at the avisociety sales here

I have only ever done feather DNA.And send in one of the flight feathers, normally the second or third from the end of the wing.As far as surgical sexing goes I have never heard of it getting done on such a small bird as a finch.
