my finches are out of the little aviary because when my brother had his cockatiels in there he made a door and i don't like the door so i took them out with the quail and took the door off and i cleaned the bottom of the little aviary it has a metal pull out tray and i was gonna rearrange it while fixing any thing then i decided to clean it out tomorrow so what is safe to use when washing it out i know hot water but what would be safe as i want to take my bird breeding and keeping seriously.

Hi Shanny,

I use Vetafarm Avi Care concentrate. It is hospital grade disinfectant but will not hurt your birds. Another cheaper one I have used is Rudducks Bird Cage Cleaner. It’s not as strong as Avi Care but still does the job and smells nicer too! lol

Just mix a bit up in a bucket with warm water and start scrubbing! Leave it on for 10-15 minutes than hose off. Very easy.

detergent to get a good suds up , bleach to kill nasties , rinse , rinse , rinse and sunlight till bone dry another rinse if you are a clean freak and more sun.
Only reason I dont use avi cleanse is because I cant get it here so I make do with what I have , figure I have bleached the tropical fish tank yearly for a decade and no fish loss so cant be all bad.

Noooooooo....would you drink washing liquid? lol

If you are serious about being serious than you really should use a safe disinfectant. This will kill any bacteria and germs. Washing liquid may give your cage a shiny glow, but that about all... ;)

Yes in a perfect world Dano but Shanny is a student with limited funds and us rural folks dont have access to what we want when we want it .
Ive never used a commercial bird cleaner and have never lost birds from using bleach and or detergent , the key is to rinse properly and then again for safe measure .

easiest and safest household thing to use is just plain bleach shanny. about 1 part bleach to 20 parts water should disinfect everything. be sure to wash it down thoroughly afterwards like deb says. plain bleach is perfectly harmless to birds, and when rinsed thoroughly, no troubles at all.

sorry but gotta agree with Dano... if I can afford it (no pocket money, no pay etc. and I pay it myself) then I'm sure Shanny could. it's a small price to pay for live birds.
