so happy... my favourite pair of quails, Skinnipeep and Fizz (both handtame) have eggs again

only one currently, but hopefully more son.
will keep you updated,

maybe the chicks will be handtame

also Snowy Hyperactive and Cookie in the next cage have pecked through their egg - any ideas why? I have provided grit and they get plenty of nutrients.

That's great! our quails are also laying eggs again, we have six so far and she isn't sitting yet so guessing there are more on the way... The chicks are so cute but grow so quickly. the 1st clutch are almost fully feathered....

yeah you just wish they'd stay chicks for a little longer don't you?
my little boy Pip, he's now an adult and only 12 weeks old! he's paired up and is courting! well I'm not letting him breed that young.
Skinnipeep celebrated his 1st birthday on the 30th of october

Go Jay! sounds like you have a good range of colours. Is cinnamon a recessive gene?

I don't think so, it comes out over the Silver gene - hatched 4 cinnamons and 4 normals from a normal-silver pairing last time.

i had a normal pair that in one nest had a normal, silver, and my two strange cinnamon hens...

very confusing!

Well done Jay! I once had some normals that laid 13 eggs and I thought they must be duds…but they ended up hatching 11!! Sadly not all survived but I had 7 mature.
As for the egg eating, this can be a bad sign. It can mean they need protein, so you need to provide live food, soft food (insectivore mix) or even egg & bickie. But on a bad note it can sometimes be behavioural and in that case you need to kiss that one goodbye.
Anyway, hopefully it’s just a dietary thing!
