Help !!! this little corella we rescued stinks from the filthy water he was sitting in for so long ...if he continues to pick up then he is going to HAVE to have a bath of some sorts very very soon .
What do people use for oily crap stuck to the feathers ? Ive only ever misted my birds they keep themselves clean but I dont know if this one should be preening himself in case the crap on him is toxic.
I was thinking along the lines of baby shampoo but I dont know ...any ideas .?

They wash chooks in baby shampoo for shows as long as its weak can't see how it would hurt.I'd be more concerned about chills and shock.

16 yrs ago when I first got my pet cockatoo, Mal, he (she) quickly got very dirty from the small cage. Dad decided he need a bath so we just made up some warm soapy water and plonked him in there. A bit of a rub of the feathers and as far as I knew he never ad any adverse affects from it. I'd be surprised if dad went to the trouble of usuing any other then normal shampoo or even soap. Obviously her head went no where the water and she was wrapped in a towel to dry off. You could even use a blow dryer on warm. But make sure it's not kept outside or near draughts.
