hey steven is there any way of making new members fill out the form with there location, job etc before they can become a member, as it might slow down these spammers abit because that last one was abit risky ,especially if we have younger ones joining....pete
I was going to do that but some members don't like to fill in there location details. The only other thing I can do is when a member signs up to the forum instead of them activating there account through email it will be sent to me and then I will activate it for them. This way I can view there details and make sure that there not a spammer.

I agree with Pete about the location details. After looking at the current welcome topics its usually the first question any existing members ask of new members.
I do understand the reluctance of new members to give away any information.
I can see a couple of options, dont know how feasible they would be.
1. New members dont have to put a location in their profile until they get a feel for the site, maybe after 10 postings. The site system maybe could remind them to update their profile each time they log on. That way their privacy is secure until they feel a bit more comfortable with us.
2. As a potential new member has the opportunity to look at the site as a guest before becoming a member, they can see we are all normal reasonable people and so they could maybe just put in their home state.

Location shouldnt be a big problem , you dont have to be exact just a general location is enough ie. Im in Dubbo so if I wanted to be a bit anonomous I could put Western NSW.
