Hello people
Im in my eleventh year of being a bird geek. I reside in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. None of my mates understand my fascination and think Im crazy when I spend hours sitting inside an aviary with birds. Of course I have a backyard full of aviaries and still dont have enough. Im sure most people are relating to what Im saying. I currently keep and breed 13 species of foreign and Australian finches plus four dove species and the obligatory King quails. I have one large aviary 12 metres X 9 metres X 1.8 metres. It is fully planted and the birds love it as much as I do. Breeding results have been great since I provided the birds with all the space. Also have a bank of smaller aviaries.
Im constantly searching the internet for anything related to birds, especially finches. Ive visited this site many times and always found the conversation interesting. Finally decided to join the fun. I look forward to adding my opinions and ideas. Most people on here seem to be true enthusiasts unlike some forums where people talk too much about pet birds who are cute, have names and sound humanised. I like the idea of keeping the birds as natural as possible and preserving there natural behaviours and traits.
Feel free to communicate . Im always keen to talk birds. An addiction Im glad I have.

Gday and welcome.
What sort of finches are you keeping?
some pics of your aviary would also be great.

Its shows a few pics of my large aviary that I built about a year ago. Wasnt many birds in there at the time I took the photos. Sure is now though. There are also a few pics of some of my birds as well. I will add more pics later.
At present I keep
Emblemas (normal and yellow), Stars, Chestnut Breasted Mannikans, Blue Faced Parrots, Orange Breasts, Red Billed Firefinch (normal and pink), Cubans, Longtails (yellow and red beaked), Red Cheeked Cordons, Cutthroats, Silver Headed Nuns, Strawberry finch, Talpocoti Dove, Masked Dove, Emerald Dove, King quail and one faintail pigeon. No partridge in a pair tree though.
I also have kept in the past
Double bars, Gouldians, Goldfinches and Diamond doves.
I keep all colour mutations separate from normals and also separate close relatives to prevent hybrids. eg orange breast and straws / nuns and chestnuts / wa and hecks longtails.
