Hi, maybe it's just a silly question but... is it normal for juveniles to go in and out of the nest 10 days after fledging?
Today I saw three of the 4 latest chicks going back into the nest where they fledged from 10 days ago. Parents are incubating another clutch, and the father was inside at that moment. The hen was nearby and she didn't seem to mind at all (she wouldn't let any other creature approach her nest!)
Is that normal??

Society finches are renown for it as are some others such as Zebs and Double Bars, Have had others do it at times.If you see it as a problem (Broken eggs) give them a few more days and wean the young.

As Buzzard said it depends on the species (the 3 he mentioned come to mind). I have trouble with cut-throats laying in the same nest before the last lot have even fledged.

well, this hen laid her first egg of this second clutch when the 4th chick had not fledged yet (he fledged a day after its siblings did)

This nest is quite big. There's enough room for all of them. Parents did a good job making the nest. They built a sort of curved passage before the "egg chamber", so I guess the chicks stay in that passage rather than go all the way in, so I hope they don't break any eggs
