I have wondered about the differences between these for a while - I love longtails, but in a mixed collection I have heard parsons are better suited with a better temperament? can anyone shed any light on this?

We've hard long-tails in with redbrows, stars, painteds for years without any ill effect. They are cheerful and nosey birds.

I was just wondering because I used to have longtails, but they killed 3 o/b hens and a cordon, and severely plucked a RF parrot finch male.
I guess it depends on the bird, like crimson finches

I've got longtails in with gouldians, painted, stars and plumheads for a few years. Never had an issue and all breeding. Some time ago I had parsons in with a similar mix. The parsons were more of an issue but not a problem. The parsons just liked checking out everyone else's nests but were easily driven away by the irrate owners. But each pair is different I guess.

Hi Jayburd
I have found that Parson Cock will dominate the LT hens even if he has his own hen
Rather keep them apart as He can get nasty
