How common / hard to get are these and what should one expect to pay? Anyone here have any?

I paid $45 .00 for a pair last year but going on what i got for 2 girls last week I guess they are going to be quite dear till breeding season comes around again .
I got $50.00 for 2 girls , nice girls at that.

Are we talking normal red fronted Painteds here? OR the small number of unusuall individuals whose red colouring covers an area about double that of most painteds?

That's what I thought you meant. Think it's just a matter of breeding heavy red to heavy red, but of course you have to get them in the first place. Not too common but not exactly rare. Not tecnically a different type so would depend on the seller if you got them at the same price or if they charged a premium for the more colourful birds.

brokenhead aviaries and aussie finch breeder both have them (not sure if they have birds for sale at the moment) and they both freight their birds. I emailed aussie finch breeder recently about the painteds "Order list for Painteds is 3-4 months. They are $50pr. I think freight was around $60. Last time I was at brokenhead aviaries ken didn't have any available, but that was around 2-3 months ago...
