Hello folks,
Obviously i cant help you in acquiring some redpolls,as im on the other side of the globe but i would be glad to answer any questions you may have on these delightful little birds.I have been breeding them for a few years now,and this year i have been lucky enough to get my hands on the cinnamon mutation redpoll,so hopefully with our breeding season drawing nearer i will breed some cinnamons to go with my collection of normals.
Nick.

Haven't seen a Redpoll for years but before NEBRS around 1999 they were quite common as were Chaffies.........we found Redpolls very soft in captivity as did a number of breeders despite them colonising New Zealand (apparently $10/pair there or just trap as many as you want!!!)
Their softness did nto seem climate related though as many from dfferent states had the same experiences
The last ones I was offered were 2 lonely, age indeterminate, cocks!!!
Again Melbourne might be their last "hiding" place.
Saw the Linnets not long ago...........they sort of make Grey singers look like Birds of Paradise!!!
Hope that Rob at Ace gets them going.
Chaffies are brilliant birds and used to breed mine in with Cordons, Orange Breasts and Red strawbs without incident...........in fact never had them worry anything else............mind u dont try and run them as a trio!!!! Very savage on each other but apart from that a brilliant aviary bird with an excellent call in the breeding season..............lots of live food required to breed though - luv crickets.
Seems a goodly number being bred this season which is great.........fingers crossed for a pile of males!!!
