Anyone know whether yellowhammers are still around in Australia?

yes they are but are in very very low numbers.
so iwish you luck ifyou were planning on getting them. i also know of a guy over here in WA that was trying to get them

someone is SA has them, not cheap though approx $2000 a pair

wattle aviaries online are pretty good at sourcing birds that you want.

Rob's a good guy and an bird breeder himself with an interest in preserving many of the exotic breeds. Generally gets a lot of hard to find birds. PM me if you want more detailed info.
