Hi Guys,

I have this post on another site and received some replies, but after updating it with some other info and links to pics of my birds have yet to receive some replies. Am only new to birds and basically am open to all comments and assistance:

I have recently been given 2 x red head gouldians (purple chests). Was told they were a pair as 1 has a bright purple chest and the other has a pale chest. But on reading on the internet several people refer to the female having a dark coloured beak. My 2 birds both have a white beak with (in human terms) red/orange "lipstick". So my query is does the female always have a dark coloured beak or is that dependant on other factors??

Today am even more confused as I was told my "red head female" is actually a "black head mutation female" and I need to get a red head female and a black head male as my current pair will not nest with each other!!!!!!!

Can you guys have a look at the pics at the following links and and see what you think?

Thanks in advance for any comments

Hello, u def have a red head pair there! Not sure what website u have been on, but you don't need to buy a blackhead bird. A hens beak will turn black during the breeding season and if she is in breeding condition it will turn black from what it is now. Any other questions fire away :)

Hallo Spoton. Yes, you have a pair. As Misso already stated the hens beak with turn dark as she gets into the breeding mood. Just a note about posting pics.
When you right click on your mouse you can turn pics clockwise or counterclockwise. Keep right clicking till the birds are upright on your pic. Saves us oldies a stiff neck. :) cheers, Case

Thanks for the replies with the good news re: having a pair. Will now let mother nature do what she does best!!! These are the first gouldians I have owned and I must say watching them in the aviary is very relaxing - unlike watching the white zebras who are everywhere at once!!!! thanks again
