Hi all, just recently had a nest of five young hecks fly, one normal, two fawns and two creams, not bad out of a pair that I bought as nomals last year, cant wait for the next nest to see what comes out, obviously the parents are split and I got a bargain.

Nice surprize but I'd bet they are siblings to boot!

Not bad those mutations? Depends on one's viewpoint. If I were to breed with normals I would expect normals. Just have a look the problems mutations are causing in the Gouldians. And did the person who sold you the Hecks know what he/she was doing? doesn't sound like it. cheers, Case

If you are happy with the result that is a good thing. But if you had actually wanted normals that could have been very irritating. If they were sold as normals sounds like your seller may not know much about genetics.

or it could be an onseller. I met someone selling ing quails once... I had made very sure that I did not buy birds from a certain guy, as I had already bought birds off him and I didn't want any inbreeding problems. anyway, I bought a pair, and THEN he tells me "oh, I got them off that bloke there a week back". points straight at the guy I'm avoiding

The birds were bought at one of the bird sales in Melbourne last year along with acouple of pair of double bars that have also produced four young from one of the pairs, was more surprised than dissapointed with the out come of the young, and no I am not sending them anywhere.LOL
