Aberdeens

Yesterday, had a guy drive down from Newcastle to exchange his Aberdeens for some of my Silverbills.
I guess i should not have been surprised when I saw that his birds were hybrids.
I am beginning to think that mine are the last of the pure bloods. Does anyone know of any birds out there? Even odd birds would be welcome as my little group are all related.
I am happy to buy, swap or even give mine to someone else who may be breeding them.

That's unlucky... it happens way to often though.
I'm sure I could find you someone who COULD be breeding them even if they haven't got any yet...

;)
I think there's a guy in Sydney though who breeds aberdeens. Article on him in the second-to-latest just finches (the one with the tanager on the front)

There are a few out there. I have posted a Wanted add on Petlink and a few other sites and the only pure's about are guarded like you wouldn't believe. All the others are Cut throat hi breeds, although some of them swore that they were pure. Good luck I've been chasing them for 3 or 4 years.

Put them under buy and swap in the classifieds section of the forum. And good luck.

Hi Weaver,
I have been after Aberdeens for nearly 4 years! They are few and far between in Qld!! And yes, most I came across have been bred with Cut Throat hens so I stay clear of them.
I know of 2 breeders in Brisbane but they are holding onto to theirs to build the numbers up.
If you ever want to sell a pair or 2 please let me know!

Hey dano,
You now know 3 breeders with Red-heads. Might be a good opportunity to introduce them so they can swap some lines. You could even offer to do the stud book, such a service would surely put you at top of the list for a pair once they are willing to sell.

Due to the difficulty of finding other breeders of this finch willing to trade or swap I have decided to move them on . Prefer them to go to some one already with them but no one has them , do they??????? Any how they are pure ( see photos make up your own mind , Plenty of experts out there )but there is a plan B.forum members get first go a these then there on pet link ( no I will not freight don’t trust them)

Westfinch they look as good as any Aberdeens that I have seen in the past 12 months in other collections.
