Sadly they are the most difficult of all PF to keep in captivity. They do not take easily to a hard seed diet and require special little figs instead.

Mmm wonder if they would take to eating the Cape wild fig. I could get tons as nothing really eats them other than bats and the trees drip fruit. That is of course if I could ever afford the Finches that would eat them! Beautiful birds.

Beautiful birds for sure. I looked around a bit more and found some more pictures at the following sites:

http://www.birdforum.net/opus/Erythrura_regia

http://www.mangoverde.com/birdsound/pic ... -94-2.html

Try reading Ian Morley's account of his trip if you are thinking about a trip to Vanuatu one day.

Speaking of figs does anyone know if any finches eat Morton Bay figs? Always on the lookout for treats that I can access locally.
