Kakarikis destroyng nest

Just checked the Kaks eggs , only have checked them twice since she laid , thought they must be due to hatch, and she has scattered the eggs AGAIN . Two eggs are missing and the remaining 5 are all over the place , a couple are damaged .
This is the second time she has done this now , candled the 3 that looked OK and 2 look to be fertile . Thought the high heat may have caused the first time but it has been constant 30c this time and they are in an insulated aviary so temps have been good for her.
Dont know what to make of it , any ideas ?

They are just over 12 months old , certainly seem like male / female , fed right but I do have an issue with incorrect calcium sources in the aviary at the moment , are active and in good feather .
They share an aviary with 1 pair quarrion / 1 pair bourkes / 1 pair diamond doves and 1 pair quail and I have seen no sign of nest invading at all , they have 5 boxes to choose from at different heights all new and unused .

Hi Deb, She might still be a bit young. Let her go again but if she does the same give her a rest and let her age abit. That's all I can think of.

That might be all it is too , not real impressed with them as an aviary bird at the moment . They empty this hopper out every second day .
They hoard any fresh / soft food I put in there and Ive never seen a bird that could poop so much and all over the place .
Kinda glad theres no young as the other birds in the aviary wouldnt know what hit them . Decision time on this one .

Maybe a reason to go to the Gunnadeah sale, sell these get something different and other half wont have to build another aviary. All fixed!

And as he will be at work

........

fait accompli

I like my pied Kakariki’s, don’t crap much no more than other birds, although they can be wasteful eaters, however that can be overcome.
Great bird only they have suffered from hybridisation and development of mutations. Can be sold as pets although they go hypo.

I think the crapping issue is due to the fact that they never stay still and utilise every inch of the aviary climbing and what not so it gets everywhere . I like them too but not when the more docile birds suffer because of their hyperactive ways .

Mine are only for show atm no box. Most people try and breed them when its too hot...
When I last bred Kak’s 8 years ago, I would put the nest box on the aviary floor and keep them on their own except for KQ on the bottom. Aviary was just a standard parrot bank – 2.1m long 750 wide 2m high. Not big seed eaters -Mine get apple, carrot, silver beet, soaked sunflower, chicken bones, seeding grass, pomegranates, milk thistle, etc.
Bourke’s go ok with kak’s as do Cockatiels. Mine are with Cockatiels now. Having the Kak’s with the Cockatiels has actually brought out the personality of the Cockatiels more.

Mine are in with Bourkes and Quarrion , 3 metre x 3 metre . They are not aggressive as some people think , even the little Bourkes push them around . Your right they bring the aviary to life .
We will see what happens I guess Im in 2 minds now about what to do with them at the moment .
