Did you know that Parrot Finches love Lorry Nectar ?

Just sharing in case anyone wanted to give their fave finches a treat every now and then ...Im guessing that too much may be very fattening given the high sugar content .

All of my birds drink the nectar I mix for the honeyeaters, even the wrens & fruit pigeons. It use to be a race between the Tanimbars, Splendid Wrens & Scarlet Honey-eaters to see who could get their first.

The nectar is a good pick-me-up for any birds feeling a bit run down- of just about any species as has been mentioned.
Just watch the parrot-finches don't get too fat on it- you're right Deb. But boy they love it!!

I built my new aviary over an existing garden bed which included a medium sized Grevillea in flower. I noticed that the Tanimbars especially loved getting into the flowers for the pollen. I also had the best start to a breeding season in years, although every Tanimbar clutch was clear. I don't think it was related though as i found all my males were overweight but had been at the end of last seaon too.

Thats the reason I started looking into blossom nectar for birds other than Lorries , the long drought and then the heavy rains have been a bit hard on the Grevilleas and bottlebrush around my area .
I know all the parrots and some finches love to chew on the flowers and was feeling like they might like a sub for the real thing .
Perhaps not as good as the real thing but as a treat I think they will love it.
