Such behavior is not uncommon especially in the absence of the opposite sex. I have had Musk Lorikeets where a bonded "pair" of hens and have laid four eggs instead of the usual two and incubated them in the presence of an available male. At the moment I have about ten Mandarin Ducks. Two of the males have been bonded for about six years (in the presence of hens) and check out nest boxes and play house. I have never seen them consummate the relationship. One of the other drakes has two, sometimes three hens, so he is known as the Mormon and the other two are Cyril and Cedric ( funny how we name our birds). I don't need them for breeding so why separate them if they are happy. Who am I to stand in the way of true love?
